What a beautiful sent, elegant and classy yet great for casual occasions. I ordered the sample kit because I have been looking for a signature scent for years but without any success. I am not one to like strong and intense room filling scents but wanted to have a piece of refined scent when I wanted to feal cozy and warm. Finally, I have found THE scent I was looking for all this time. I really hope that Troubled Spirits will be made for the rest of my lifetime. I would not wear anything else. My wife and I love smells but are very picky, we both love it.

I have been wearing Troubled Spirits for years so frankly it smells like me. I worked in a store which sold Pharaphrase & I have extensively tried all the scents. This one isn't light or girly, it is warm & spicy & musky it has depth of character & while still sweet something masculine & sexy about it . I am constantly told I smell amazing . Need I say more?
One of the most apt description-to-scent associations I have ever come across on your creations, Josh! The fragrance does bring up memories of cozy, decadent laughter as you wrap your scarf and don your coat, about to head off into a snowy winter night. Truly an exceptional scent that warms you from the inside out, like a whiskey toddy for the soul! A lovely creation.
I was searching for a Canadian-made signature scent that would be androgynous, sexy and powerful while being natural enough ingredients to not give me a headache, subtle enough to wear to work but noticeable enough to get comments when someone comes in close.
Troubled Spirits won out over lots of others and has been my signature scent for well over a year now. I have also come to enjoy how well it layers with other scents to increase the complexity. For example, in the summer I will layer it with rose-heavy scents to bring out more of the floral. Whereas, in the winter, I will layer scents heavy on musk, amber, sandalwood and patchouli to deepen the sexy and mysterious notes of this fragrance.

To me, Troubled Spirits smells like a warm winter evening. The tangy citrus note of orange and the soft whiskey note give the fragrance a playful character, while amber, incense, and patchouli provide a warm, slightly smoky base. I love this fragrance and find it unique, and the mood it embodies is like coming home after a long night.
I tried Troubled Spirits as a sample and just purchased the travel size. Along with Burrow, it is my go to fragrance. It is such a pleasure to wear, and a great way to support a deserving Canadian company. In addition to the lovely scents, Paraphrase is consistent with excellent customer service.

The opening has strong whisky notes, then as the dry down begins the oak and incense notes become more prominent. A really enjoyable fragrance.
I started with a sample pack (4), and was very happy with all of them. Settled on the Troubled Spirits. It reminded me mostly of the smell of a dry wood forest.

Surpassed my expectations
By FAR my favourite fragrance ive ever tried. The sweetness of the orange zest really comes through at the top but the underlying notes of incense and patchouli really mellow it out nicely. Very complex and pleasing scent.
My only complaint is that it does fade fairly quickly, in my experience, it only lasts about 4-5 hours

I loved the little bit that was in the sample because it lived up to the notes. (being an Irish Whiskey girl, I appreciate that) The fragrance gives me the same feeling as a snifter of whiskey or brandy on a cold night. It is truly delicious. The full size got here quickly, even after I learned that it was Canadian. Yes, I would happily pay the stupid tariff, when it is time for more.
It might be named Troubled Spirits, but the fragrance is anything but! It's confident, sexy and looking for a good time! The Travel Size is a generous quantity and that's good because I love to put it on heavy when I'm out clubbing - it always gets attention and compliments!

I bought the sample pack. I haven't written reviews for any of the ones I've tried so far, but this one smelled so much like cheap whiskey, green Speed Stick deodorant, and Brut cologne that I couldn't not come here and say that. If you're into the wino from the early 80s cleaning up to go to a court hearing vibe, this is it.
A winter wonderland party - it's garland and fairy lights strung up around the house, a steady snowfall through a frosted window, and a glass of mulled wine in hand sitting in an armchair by the fire laughing with good company. Specifically, the blend of patchouli and amber base notes with the initial shot of whisky and sturdy oak give a sort of distant leathery appeal without the bitterness of the tannins - an artful and sophisticated blend in that regard. On my skin, it wafts like a boozy spiced plum cake fresh out of the oven glazed with orange zest icing, and it is incredibly frustrating that the source of such an intoxicating aroma is not also edible. Seasonal extravagance and sugary indulgence are powdered with joy and filled with gooey, fruity gratitude. This is the perfume of sneaking off to a quiet corner at a crowded gathering for a quick social break, watching everyone go about their conversations, hearing old jokes and stories revived, the soft clink of glass and cutlery, and feeling your heart swell to be surrounded by so much love. I imagine Martha May Whovier would have gifted this to the Grinch to wear for his first real Whoville Christmas in remembrance of the affair. Troubled Spirits is most assuredly a fragrance for special occasions and for those of you want to smell like the dizzying conclusion to a dimly lit, romantic date...before going on the date! It is at once a promise of good things on the horizon and a reminder of how far we've come, capturing the true meaning of the holidays.
